A sahasranamam called life

I have some good news and some bad news - The good news is that I am in print. An article that Sangeetha and I had written for the Sandpaper is finally online (You can read it by clicking here) .

The bad news is that it's now official that my name suffers from Multiple personality disorder. I was born Rathish - but have been Rathusu, Rat, Rats, Rithesh, Ratheesh (here), Ratish (here also!) and off late have been Ratan, Yatin ... and lots more. My play troupe is the one does the maximum damage. Ratan, my instructor, can never get my name right and always ends up calling me Rithesh and faithful students we are, all of them call me by the same name. Off late for reasons I can't fathom, they have started calling me Ratan (and for once I don't cringe coz it's quite an honor!). I had written about it earlier too (even before this blog was born) - Shall let the post do the rest of the talking!

PS: If you have similar problems, do let me know. We will get together and start a Name (for)sake N club and spread some joy!

thou no one has really messed around with my name...over the years I have been plagued by a series of nick names. I have been tryin to run away from them and they keep coming after me!! When I was in college I was called "Chips" just coz I was from kerala...can you believe it man!! It was awful coz most of my college knew me only by Chips n my real name had almost vanished!!

Rat, Nice read, yet again da. Though, i was born as Avinash -- Lotta ppl shortened my name to Avi and made it as my nick( even now, many ppl call me Avi only ). In my office here, everybody calls me Vi.... ( The ppl here hav the tendency to short the name as shortest to call as possible, so, they hav even cut-short the Initial A in my name ).Other than that, I remember, i was called as "Aavin","Avinu","Avinashi","Avneesh" ( one of my gujju friend in my college used to call me like that) "BeemBoy"-- thanx to Kamalhaasan in MMKR.

Sometimes I forget what my name actually sounds like, especially since I've been in the States. It's Aarti, which has been turned into Atari (I am NOT a videogame!), Ardy (especially in the midwest), Aartthi, A-rat-i ( I am not a rodent either!) and thanks to the Starwars movies, RTD2 which is one I don't mind keeping as u can see..Except when one absent minded prof decided to call me R2 in front of everyone :)

rat,
if you experienced problems for "Rathish", imagine "Panchapagesan". I have been Panch, panchu, panj, panju, pancha, paancha, punjab, panjaabikesan, panjaabakeshan, PUNCHGANESH (bio teacher at BITS, happily called me that), PAGNESH...BUT NEVER WAS I PANCHAPAGESAN!
The main point here is that, atleast most of you guys wouldnt have had problems when telling ur name to people who share have a similare background as urs. But to me, its always been this way:
"Hi, I am Panchapagesan"
"Sorry!"
"Panch...that will do!"

So when is the club begining?

I am sure your 'club' is going to have quite a following!
My name is Chitra. And in school, when 'Jungle Book' was a rage, people had started calling me 'Chittu Bhedia'. No, really.
Chits, chitru, chittu, chaitra, cheeeetra, sita...phew!!
Let me know about the club sooooon!

I strayed over to your blog from that of a friend of mine.

First off, I have to say you write pretty well. Congratulations.

I think I posted this elsewhere in response to one of your other posts. But I cant seem to find it. The network probably ate my post. But maybe that's a good thing - my question probably belongs better here. Is your name:
a) रतीश - the Lord of Rati (e.g. कामदेव), or,
b) रथीश - the Lord of the Chariot (propable reference to Krishna being Arjuna's chariteer?)

Thanks.

Hey A no nymous,

firstly thanks for the compliment :) As for the name, it's option a (though I have to admit that I have never interpreted my name as in option b). My cousin (more like my elder sis) was called "Rathi" ("Rethi" rather, as we malayalis put it) and since I was close to her since day 1, they named me Rathish.
